Learn more about the intensity of life changing trauma and its effects in FLASHBACK and FLASHING BACK, the new PTSD books published by Alan C. Thomas Books in Greensboro, Georgia. Peek into living with Vietnam War flashbacks. Feel the stress and suspense of war service. Best of all, you'll be confronted with the question "How do I heal from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?" in a rigorously realistic way.

Culled from the author's actual experiences in Vietnam and walking the path of healing from the long term psychological and emotional effects, Alan's books are essentially memoirs, first-hand chronicles of the individual events he's lived through. FLASHBACK and FLASHING BACK define the experience of dealing with PTSD caused by life changing trauma. Alan's espionage thriller STINGRAY is based on his experiences in a Navy shipyard surrounded by Russian spies.

During the author's search for a traditional publisher of his book FLASHBACK, he was told that it would be necessary to change names and places mentioned in the manuscript.  The author's search for a non-fiction publisher continued for a year.  At the end of that period, it became apparent to the author that his accounting of his Vietnam War experiences would not be published, as non-fiction.  As he could not afford to pay the cost of self-publishing his work, he decided to let the reader of his book decide if changing names and places made his book a work of fiction.

During a search for a publisher of his second memoir STINGRAY, he was told that "The names stated in the non-fiction manuscript submission are too close to the names of people involved in real life."  One prospective publisher stated that "Censors have reviewed your manuscript submission and they want you to make so many changes to it, that you would not want us to publish it."

After considerable thought, he agreed to comply with the "requests" of the publisher's censors.  By doing so, the publisher required him to agree to allow the following statement on the reverse side of the first printed page: "This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places, and incidents either are the product of the author's imagination or are used fictitiously.  Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, events, or locales is entirely coincidental."
